Boulevard Provencher

St Boniface was established in 1818 by Fr. Joseph-Norbert Provencher. Fr. Provencher had been requested by Lord Selkirk of the Hudson Bay Company to establish a mission on the east bank of the red river, opposite his own colony which was later to become Winnipeg. Now the main street, Boulevard Provencher is named after him.
